Feeling good today!

I am feeling a lot better today. It seems like I have been sick for a week although its probably only been a couple days. It is a pretty nice day out. I played a couple games of sand volleyball with the guys. Now I am waiting for lunch. It's the first time I have had a good appetite for a while. Thanks for all your get well soon posts I just wish I would have had the energy to come up here to the internet center to read them :p. Anyways I leave for a Iraq in a couple days. I know where I am going and what my job is going to be when I get there finally. I am still not supposed to talk about it though. Maybe I will be able to tell everyone where we are when we get there. If not I guess I can just tell you when I get back. Something I can probably say is that we are taking some of the guys out of each section and making a new platoon. Now there are 5 platoons and we are all going to different places. So far it sounds like I am going to a good place and have a pretty easy job. I am going to get online and look up some information about the base I am going to if I can find anything. Hope you are all doing well. Will write more later.

Went to sick call today

Today I got up early and went to sick call. I have not been feeling well for a couple of days. They said I have bronchitis, yippy! I wont gross you all out with the details but I feel like crap. The water has pretty much dried up but for a few really big puddles. I think I will take this time to tell my brother Clay Happy Birthday incase I can not get on the net tomorrow. If you are a hot babe and you are reading this maybe you could give him a kiss or something. There Clay, I tried to hook you up. Let me know how that works out for you. :) Anyways I am going to head back to the tent and lay down for a while.

Can you believe it is still wet out there?

The water has mostly dried up now but there are still some big puddles around here. It seems that this sand packs pretty good after it gets wet. The water can't even drain through the soil. Other than that it is starting to get pretty chili here. Yesterday we went out to the range to fire our weapons (m16, m203, m9, etc...) and it was really kinda cold out. When we had down time we would lay on the ground and try to soak up the sun. A few people fell asleep and soaked up a little too much. My friend Sgt. Ballard fell asleep on his side and now his face is super red on one side except where his chin strap was attached. So now he looks like he is wearing a white chin strap on one side of his face LOL. Last night at around 1:30 am I got up to go to the latrine and saw an SUV pulled up to the next tent. Apparently SSG Deporter's wife had just had her baby/babies (I think she was going to have twins) I guess he got a Red Cross call. I have not got to talk to him yet but I will have to congratulate him when I see him. FYI it seems that if you do need to get ahold of me in an emergency the red cross really works. Anyways I have to go to the PX and buy some stuff. Will write more later.... Luke

It's a Mucky Mess here!

Yesterday I didn't get out very much. It rained all day long and I do mean all day. I think it started at about 3am because that was when I was heading to bed from the internet cafe'. It didn't stop untill about 10pm. The sand just turned to mud and there are a lot of puddles out there today. It would have been nice to have that 3rd bag that didn't make it on the plane because I had my wet weather overboots in there. My little area in our tent stayed pretty dry but a lot of other guys did not fair so well. The cloth matierial the tent is made off just soaked up the rain in no time and started dripping down in a lot of spots in the tent. They originally told us the annuall rain fall was about 6 inches but I think we got that all in one day. Anyways today the sun is out and hopefully it will dry up some of this mud. Hope you are all doing well back in the states. Just remember snow is fun :)

Finally our first day of training.

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts lately. I did try to post a message the other day but it didn't seem to go through and I didn't realize that till now.
Anyways, we actually did something constructive today. We went out and did MOUT training at another camp here in Kuwait. We were supposed to use live paint rounds but we didn't have the equipment available to open the range so we just went through dry fire drills and stuff all day. It was pretty cool even though we have done this type of training before. We had what I believe to be an SF (special forces) guy train us today. He only went by his first name and would not tell us what he does in the military. He also had a beard and long hair which is a good indicator that he does that kind of job. He showed us a lot of useful tactics so I think it was a worthwhile day of training even though we didn't get to use live ammo. We got done at around 3pm and then I crashed untill about midnight so I got at least 9 good hours of sleeping in. I just got done with Midnight chow so I thought I would catch up on some emails and stuff... For some reason the lab is not that busy right now so that is good. Well before I start rambling I better sign off. I just want to add one more thing. I wish it wasn't so nice out over here I think I almost got sunburnt today :) jk Hope you are all staying warm back home.

Posting comments without registering

Okay dad says that I should put instructions on here on how to comment on my blog.  It is pretty simple you just have to read the fine print.  If you click on comments at the bottom of the post you want to comment on you can go to the comments section where you can read other peoples comments and post your own.  At the bottom of that page there should be a link called post a comment or something like that.  If you click on that there should be another page that wants you too log in or register to comment.  If you look close there is a link that says or post anonymously or something to that affect.  This is the one you should use if you are not registered on this website.  Just remember to add your name or something to the comment so I will know who it was that left the comment.  I hope that helps I wrote it from memory so hopefully my brain is working right now.  Hope this helps.

Today we went to a briefing at noon or I should say yesterday since it is now close to 3am. I slept the rest of the day so I could stay up and hopefully catch my family online or some friends or something. I didn't catch anyone so I don't think I will be doing this much more. So far we are not doing anything here in Kuwait. We are waiting on a lot of bags to catch up with us. Who knows when they will get here. It rained for a while the last couple days, we managed to stay mostly dry inside the tents so I guess it is a good thing that we are not out doing anything. I bought a pair of $2.50 Oakleys the other day to wear untill they get us our wileyX goggles. I know they are fake ones but it is kinda tradition to but rip off Oakleys when you leave country, Right? Well it looks like dad just popped online so time to sign off for now.

Just got to Kuwait (yay)

I am here in Kuwait now. I had the day off and spent most of my time learning how the base I am on is run. It is kinda neat they have a small PX an internet café a pizza place and a free internet place where I can just use AKO. The internet seems really slow though. It is colder here that I thought it would be around the 60’s during the day and a lot cooler at night. I have not really seen anything off base accept for Kuwait city while we were flying in. The 747 we took was really cool it had these seats that folded down into beds up in first class it was a double decker plane and the first class seats had tv’s per seat. It was only an 11 hour flight so it was not too bad but I guess on the way home it takes longer because of the wind in the atmosphere. Anyways just wanted to let you all know I am safe and all that. If it takes this long to use the internet I may not get on it that often. I hear that if you are here in the morning it may be a shorter line so I may try that tomorrow. Well I think I am going to sign off until I can get hooked up.

pissed and bummed

Today is my first day back from leave. I just found out I have to go out to the field and sleep in tents for more days. We were supposed to be done with that. It's kinda like a big punch in the gut. We don't have any reason to go out there either. Our Commander is trying to get them to let us stay in the barracks but he doesn't think he will convince them. A lot of the guys have already sent their cold weather gear home too. On top of all that we are supposed to get our small pox shot soon so that wont be too sanitary out there since we will not get regular showers. Oh well... off to cheer myself up.
